At the age of 22, Eleanor Rimoldi left New York to begin a long journey to the other side of the world.
Sitting on the train to San Francisco, she began the first poem in this collection: a haunting farewell to the country of her birth.
Over the next 57 years, in America and New Zealand, through migration, marriage and separation, motherhood and career, Rimoldi has continued to write.
With a distinctive, precise and powerful voice, her poems burrow deep into love and grief and the nature of home.
Eleanor Rimoldi was born and raised in Buffalo, New York and emigrated to New Zealand in 1961. She has taught anthropology at universities in Auckland, Tonga and Bougainville.
She currently lives on Waiheke Island. You are warmly invited to celebrate the launch of American Retrospective here at the gallery on:
