Blue Spaces

Passionate about our marine environment? Then celebrate and promote SEA WEEK by participating in the Waiheke Community Art Gallery's exhibition 'Blue Spaces' We are looking for works that focus on the gulf marine environment and can include an innovative variety of artwork and installation. Entry fee is just $15 and works need arrive at the gallery by Friday 2nd March. Get those creative flippers out, splash some ideas around, have a boatload of fun making some wonderful seaworthy creations. Any questions just ring us here at the gallery 372 9907.

Wrap ups and Updates – Jan 2012
The gallery wishes you all a Happy New Year for 2012.
Here's a quick update on the latest events and shows coming up. keep an eye on the website and Facebook page for more information and images.
Summer School Wrap
Another successful Summer School was held in the second week of January.
The twenty four students produced some exceptional work under the direction of tutors Clive Humphreys, (painting and drawing)
Andrew Last (jewellery) and Allan Cox (photogpraphy).
It is absolutely amazing to see what can be achieved in just a week and all students finished on a real high.
Huge visitor numbers were experienced by the gallery over the Xmas New Year period and these have continued over the past two weeks.
Our first group of exhibitions for 2012, Voyagers, Waiheke Art Map Listers and Apparatus by Oliver Stretton Pow are now up
and running following a very crowded opening last Friday. They are receiving many compliments.
Coming Exhibitions
Figures in the Landscape from 10 February to 5 March, plus Gold, Silver and other precious colours.
Blue Spaces – in conjunction with Sea Week will run from 9 March to 2 April.
This will be a big community exhibition of both two and three dimensional work inspired by life in our
surrounding waters, artworks made from flotsam and jetsam, and underwater photography.
So get creative and get going on a work for the show.
There will be an entry fee for this exhibition of $15 per person.
The 2012 Small Sculpture Prize will take place this year over Easter
(Small Things is renamed Jostle and rescheduled to May coinciding with Reclaim to Fame)
The Award Ceremony for the Small Sculpture Prize will be held on Saturday 7th April at 5pm.
We are delighted to welcome a new sponsor for this Award, Environ, who are keen to see this Award an annual event on the Gallery Calendar.
At Easter the Small Gallery and Annex will host a Survey exhibition of the work of Claudia Pond Eyely
complimented by Claudia’s recent documentaries.
A new suite of works will also be for sale.
Following Easter the Annex will be converted to an Object Gallery which will enable
us to show more substantial and larger works than is currently possible in the gallery shop.
We envisage a range of both two and three dimensional work in this space which changes less frequently than the Main Gallery.
May heralds more big community shows.
This year we are introducing The Red Eye – 11-13 May.
Community Groups will have an opportunity to use the gallery in any way they see fit from 10am to 10pm over a two day period.
We want as many community groups as possible to put a proposal to the gallery for use of its spaces.
Reclaim to Fame and Jostle –will be held from 18th May to 11th June, entry fees are applicable to both these exhibitions.
These are followed by The Members Show from 15th June to 16 July.
If you are serious about your work you need to be in this show.
The Small Gallery is also available at for exhibitions a certain times during the year please contact us with your proposal to arrange a meeting.

Small Sculpture Prize 2012

Submissions are invited for the 2012 Small Sculpture Prize. Proudly sponsored by Environ, this is a National Award for free standing or wall scuplture up to 800mm in any dimension. Artist In Residence 2012

Submissions have closed for artists wishing to participate in its Artist In Residence programme commencing May 2012. The Artist In Residence programme presents an artist with the opportunity to reside on Waiheke Island for a 12 week period, and create a body of work for exhibition at the conclusion of the residency. The Artist in Residence for 2012 is Susanne Kerr. All the best Susanne and we look forward to your exhibition later in the year.
